I've seen it everywhere. It's a go to for many make up junkies to makeup up minimalists. Coty Air Spun Face Powder is a popular setting powder that is way affordable and loved by many. But I'm sharing today why you need to ditch the cute burnt orange tub of dust, like yesterday.

WHAT IS COTY AIRSPUN POWDER?

Loose powder is used to set foundation, "bake" your face, or sometimes used alone to simply lessen shine. They come in "translucent" as well as various shades. You can find them in drugstores, online, and amongst high end department store brands as well.
You can find the Coty Air Spun brand for as little as $6, in your local Walgreens or even through Amazon. I'm not sharing this to bash any Coty lovers, but to inform makeup lovers that this brand is not rated safe and here's why.

CHECKING YOUR POWDERS

Coty isn't the only brand you should be careful of when choosing a face powder. Use the EWG's database when shopping to check product safety. Enter items in the search bar at ewg.org/skindeep or download their app  Healthy Living.

Laura Mercier's Translucent Powder is a popular high end brand that also rates a 7 with EWG. If you're an EWG newbie; anything listed with a Green number is considered safer for you, Yellow is Moderate, and Red is going to indicate higher levels of toxic ingredients.

A SAFER SWAP

You didn't think I'd leave you with that bad news and not offer a solution.
Here's the good news!
Beautycounter's Mattifying Powder is EWG Verified! This means the product passes the Environmental Working Group's strictest standards for your health, and that the product does not contain ingredients with chemical concern.

THE GOOD NEWS

Beautycounter's Mattifying Powder has been a go to of mine for almost 4 years. It is a smooth translucent powder that goes on light and easy. It sets my foundation and reduces shine. I couldn't swap it knowing how safe it compares to most other brands. You can grab your own here.
It's EWG Verified, Vegan, Cruelty Free, and made with just 6 ingredients.

If you're not ready to try Beautycounter's safer face powder; please do your research and find another clean brand by checking out EWG's website. I'd love to hear if you found one you love!
