Valentine's Day is around the corner and my kids are so excited for it! But trying to be conscious of our sugar intake, as well as what we offer our friends, I wanted to find treats this year that didn't include candy.
I'm sharing what we chose to do for class treats, as well as what I'm gifting my boys for Valentine's Day this year.

Personalized Coloring Pages

No Candy Needed! These cute mini coloring pages are by a JANE seller and can be customized with your child's name. There were about a dozen designs to choose from and my boys each got to select which they wanted to use for their class. It'll have their name on the "from" and includes 24 coloring cards with 24 self seal bags!

We are including in the bag these great Rainbow Pencil Stackable Crayons that come with 12 colors.

This treat was affordable, fun, and completely cavity-free. PLUS, easy for mom to enlist the kids' help in assembling. Gotta love an easy treat holiday!!

For My Boys

I am obsessed with Squishmallow pillows!!! They are so cute and comfy and honestly help me sleep so good - even if they are made for kids.
It's always been mommy who has gone through at least 4 squishmallows, and it's crazy to say, my boys have never had their own. (One reason is because its our dog's favorite stuffy to destroy. )

I'm breaking and finally getting them their own because I hope to do some traveling this year. It's always hard to leave them, and I'm hoping if I'm gone, while they are missing me, having a special "from mama stuffy" to squeeze will help.
Plus it's time they had one anyway!
I was hoping to embroider their initial on each, but don't know if I'll manage as the one I selected has no flat area.
I went with this cute teal sloth 12" squishmallow and they both have the same thing so they don't argue. I think they are going to LOVE IT! Let's just hope Roxy doesn't get to them!

Kids Gratitude Journal

Now that my boys are learning to read and write, I want them to be able to practice that at home in ways that feel good to them.
Sometimes when I'm doing my own practices of meditation, affirmations, or gratitude, by kids will watch me and mimic what I'm doing.
I absolutely want to nurture these healthy self care practices.
I found these great Kids Gratitude Journals on Amazon. It's a super simple format, even a 5 year old could use it (maybe with a little help). It's called
The 3 Minute Gratitude Journal for Kids: A Journal to Teach Children to Practice Gratitude and Mindfulness
What a neat simple way to teach children mindfulness, find ways to navigate conversations around feelings, and instill the valuable practice of being thankful.
I think I'm MOST excited for this one!
We try to make special days feel fun, while still keeping it simple and affordable. I feel good finding ways to celebrate that don't include calories or sugar. We can always enjoy those when we want, but hooray for getting more thoughtful in gifting this year!
Let me know what other sugar-free ideas you enjoy!

hanks for sharing the article, and more importantly, your personal experience of mindfully using our emotions as data about our inner state and knowing when it’s better to de-escalate by taking a time out are great tools. Appreciate you reading and sharing your story since I can certainly relate and I think others can to
